Social Evils and Our Responsibilities

Today, the world has reached on a zenith of sophisticated technology. Due to this, too many benefits, the people are getting; including inventions and innovations, development in various sectors, and inter-connections among different countries of the world. Obviously, everything has pros as well as cons. Besides the lucrative developments in the world, many woes are also soared to a higher level. These include social crimes and other social issues that are called as “Social Evils.”

Talking about social evils; illegality, corruption, bribery, robbery, terrorism, suicides, etc. are becoming the headache of most of the regions across the nation and world widely as well. These issues are highly contagious: spreading from one area to another. If we overlook through the history of Pakistan, we will be hypnotized to see that how these woes are constantly increasing? Now, what is our role, as a student or just as a sincere citizen, in resolving these issues?

Before going into the solutions, we must depict out the causes behind the issues. The bone of contention, I would suggest, is overpopulation. Other causes may include lack of guidance, misinterpretation of religion, lack of education, ignorance, not getting rights, injustice, etc. These are some of the factors which may give birth to numerous social evils.

Here, the question arises: how over-population can cause social issues? First we would define the term “over-population.” According to the Merriam Websters Dictionary, overpopulation is defined as “the condition of having a population so dense as to cause environmental deterioration, an impaired quality of life, or a population crash.” From the definition, it can be inferred that if overpopulation is there, then there must be deterioration in every aspect of life. People will not get quality life, or in some cases, people cannot afford two times meal. To fulfill their demands, the people would opt the way of social crimes.

Secondly, terrorism is soaring around the globe day by day, especially in Islamic countries. This is due to misinterpretation of religion. Some human-hating people use the vigorous youth in spreading terrorism, and other crimes. Those people interpret the religion in a way that ignites the inner enthusiasm of the youth. Besides, the youngsters are also given greed of heavens and other fascinating factors in the heavens. So they go for crimes, most likely self-suicide blasts.

Moreover, we use to say there was extreme form of ignorance (Jahalat) in Arab Society before Islam. Unfortunately, we are going towards that era again. All the issues of that time are growing today again. Injustice, defraud, corruption, illegality, alcoholism, rapes, and many other issues are getting birth day by day. We are developing an atrocious and a heinous society.

Nonetheless, describing only issues and not giving the solutions would be meaningless. As students, we can do thousands of things in resolving the social evils. Most of the things depend upon us that we can handle them in multitude ways. Being a student never means that just you go to school, open the bag, read a book, and back to home. The future of any nation depends upon their youth, and most of them are students. We are the backbone of the nation. I believe that it is mandatory for each and every student to work for his/her society.

Very firstly, it is well said that charity begins with home. We should start from self, and then go beyond to find ways to dissipate the evils from the society. If we are not studying seriously, we are doing corruption, we are defrauding with our parents. One day when we will be repenting on the corruption we did know, that would have become too late. So, we should be assiduous, and apply the knowledge of books in our daily lives; solving issues of self and others.

Secondly, we can organize different sessions, seminars, programs, surveys, etc. to guide the public. Most of the people are creating social issues unintentionally. They just do it because they have seen other people doing the same. For example, a man in a society has become very rich by selling alcohol, then another poor person can also wish to do the same for becoming rich. We can make them aware of the causes, dangers and later consequences of social issues. Once we would guide them, the issues can be dwindled.

In addition, again through different sort of programs, we can give them an idea of creating a place of acceptance in our society. Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) said, “It doesn’t matter whether you are an Arab or non-Arab, a black or white; prior is the one who is most pious.” No doubt, diversity exists everywhere in the universe. When acceptance or pluralism will get roots, people will try to contemplate each other and many crimes will be decreased.
We are the students of 21st century. We can make use of technology to knock down the social evils. For example, we can use social media to interpret religion in real sense, by taking help of very famous and real Ulemas. Moreover, we can make people to use internet, smart phones, etc. to find out legal jobs. We should persuade them to not do the things which are socially forbidden. And we should work in harmony with each other in order to become successful in our aim. Someone said, “If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” We have to go far! So we should create a sense of harmony in our society.

In a nutshell, social evils are augmenting daily. As students, we can do many things to plummet those woes. From guiding public to harmonizing them, we have a big privilege. First we have to bring change about ourselves. In resolving the issues, we should obediently play our roles. Now it is the time to save our mother planet from these social evils.
