Q: Why corrosion occur?
Ans: This is due to the electropositive nature (more oxidation potential) of metals. When any element i.e. iron loses its electrons in the presence of Oxygen and Water, then there a reaction occurs and oxide is formed on the surface of iron (rusting). The pure metal is used up in this process. This deterioration (eating away) of metal surface is known as corrosion.
