Oxidation state of Hydrogen

Q: Hydrogen in its all compounds has +1 oxidation state but it is -1 in metal hydrides. WHY?

Ans:    Because majority of the metals are more electropositive (have more oxidation potential) than Hydrogen. So they can lose their electrons more readily than Hydrogen. (Hydrides e.g. NaH, CaH2 etc)
